Overview of the iconic Canarian Lighthouse

Completed in 1955, this remarkable lighthouse was designed by architect Carlos Alcon, who seamlessly incorporated elements of Moorish architecture into its distinctive design. The structure features a striking exterior, achieved through a contrasting combination of masonry and whitewashed mortar, creating a visually appealing façade that stands out against the landscape.

The coloured stone utilised in its construction comes from the village of Tetir, located centrally on the island, adding a local touch to its unique appearance.

Architectural Features

  * The lighthouse’s seaward side boasts three square towers.
  * The tallest central tower supports the lantern dome, which is entirely made of glass.

Strategic Location and Visibility

Perched atop high cliffs, the lighthouse offers a focal height of 196 metres above sea level, ranking as the third highest in the Canary Islands. Its elevated position ensures excellent visibility, with its light reaching up to 21 nautical miles.

Its light signal comprises three flashes of white light every eighteen seconds, serving as a vital maritime navigational aid.
