Getting around the island of Fuerteventura

are readily available at the and they will happily take you to your destination, however, compared to the cost of public transport they are expensive but convenient and take cash or card payment in euros. Most drivers speak some english and will give you a price for the journey before you set off.

Public buses or guaguas as they are known on the island are currently operated by Tiadhe a part of Alsa. Their services cover most towns and villages. At the airport, number 3 (Caleta de Fuste), 10 (Morro Jable) and 16 (Gran Tarajal) buses return to the capital Puerto del Rosario, where the main bus station is located and where you can change to get to Corralejo (number 6 bus). Tickets are good value for money and are purchased using cash only unless you have a prepaid card.

The card gives a 10% discount on the price of the ticket.
Purchase is available on the buses. The cost for the card is €5.

During peak times and especially when cruise ships are in , the buses are often “Completo” and will not let any additional passengers on until others get off. This can be frustrating for travellers but especially for locals trying to get to work.

Private coaches are offered by companies based at the airport are also available but usually need to be prebooked, a popular example is Viva Transfers who will provide a quotation using the link.

Car Hire

There are many car hire companies on the island. The most popular are Cicar and Autoreisen who both offer fully comprehensive insurance in the prices with no hidden costs. Some other companies are not so honest check their reviews before committing to booking.
Car hire has increased in price in recent years but still offers good value especially if you want to travel around the island sightseeing or visiting other places.
