The castle’s circular design is distinctive, featuring two floors and a vault supported by a robust central pillar. Historically, it was armed with two small-calibre iron cannons and equipped with various military furnishings, making it a formidable structure in its era. Access to the interior is via a stone staircase, which is supported by a drawbridge secured with iron chains — a typical defensive feature. Within the castle, the esplanade housed a sentry box, a common room, and a cistern used for water storage, supporting the castle’s functionality and the safety of its occupants. Today, San Buenaventura Castle remains a significant historical monument, illustrating the military architecture and historical importance of the region near Caleta de Fuste, Antigua. .
