Knowing Your Skill Level to Maximise Your Surfing Experience

Understanding your skill level is a valuable resource when communicating your experience during surf lessons. At our Kailua surf centre, we always ask new students about their current capacity upon arrival. This helps us determine if they have already tried surfing alone or have previously taken lessons at other schools. With this information, we can tailor a programme specifically designed to optimise your progress.

Being able to clearly communicate your current skill and experience level before arriving at Kailua Surf Simply is essential in helping us plan your coaching week effectively. It ensures that your lessons are suited to your ability, allowing you to get the most out of your time in the water.

Since terms like “intermediate” can encompass a wide range of experience — from a few days to several decades of surfing — we instead utilise a Level 1-3 system. This system provides a more precise understanding of your abilities. During your stay, you’ll be learning alongside one or two other surfers who are at the same level as you, creating an ideal environment for progression and confidence-building.
